Maison Maillane

Maison Maillane offers the best of a true Provençal village experience with the added amenity of a private swimming pool.

Located in the center of a delightful village, near St. Rémy-de-Provence, Maison Maillane is a completely renovated vacation home which offers the best of a Provençal village experience with the added amenity of a private swimming pool.

Set in the heart of one of the most delightful small villages in the Bouches du Rhône, just outside the more famous village of St. Rémy-de-Provence, this recently renovated, multi-level townhouse opens onto a sunny interior courtyard with a small private swimming pool and outdoor seating and dining areas. A tasteful blend of modern appliances and amenities, country antiques and authentic architectural features results in an authentic Provençal ambiance that will appeal to families or groups of couples seeking a true village experience.

A small swimming pool is the highlight of the sunny courtyard at the entry to the house. Teak dining furniture and lounge chairs, blooming flower pots and perennial gardens, create an inviting outdoor living area that is protected from the elements by an arched pergola and high stone walls.

The home, originally constructed in the 19th century, has recently been renovated and remodeled, and incorporates traditional architectural features, a blend of antique and modern furnishings, and a full compliment of modern amenities. With its cozy living room, updated country kitchen and dining area, four well-sized bedrooms and two bathrooms (each with an adjacent toilet room), Maison Maillane can comfortably accommodate eight guests.

Exposed beam ceilings, hardwood and stone-tile floors, thick stone walls and a massive stone fireplace recall the architectural integrity of this 19th century home.  A tasteful blend of authentic country antiques and comfortable contemporary pieces, including the grouping of over-stuffed upholstered loveseats flanking the wood-burning fireplace, invite guests to relax and unwind after a day of touring the region. Thoroughly modern amenities, including high-speed internet access, satellite television, an MP3-ready stereo system and DVD/CD player ensure that even the most technologically inclined travelers will be able to stay "connected."

The updated "country" kitchen continues the tasteful blend of old and new...a modern stainless steel refrigerator is adjacent to the antique stone sink...traditional tile and marble countertops and back-splashes compliment the new four-burner gas range, dishwasher and oven...and a full selection of culinary equipment, including a pasta machine, raclette grill, coffee maker and microwave, ensure that no epicurean whim is thwarted for lack of the proper gadget!

A large dining table with seating for eight centers the kitchen, providing a comfortable spot for dining or conversation over breakfast croissants or after-dinner coffee.

The master bedroom. with its queen-sized bed, is located up a few steps from the main level of the home.  Throughout the house, authentic beamed ceilings, tile floors, exposed stone walls and quality country antiques maintain the traditional ambiance and character of this lovely Provençal home.

Also on the second level, a bedroom fitted wih an antique double bed shares the shower room and washbasin with the master bedroom. An independent toilet room is adjacent to the bedrooms and shower room.

There are two additional bedrooms on the uppermost (third) level of the house, one with two twin beds, and one with two double beds. The bathroom on the upper level is fitted with a tub and wall-mounted shower and washbasin; there is a second toilet room on this level.

A swimming pool (approximately 14' by 17' in dimension, and five feet deep) lies to one side of the sunny stone-tiled courtyard, which is furnished with comfortable lounge chairs and teak deck furniture. Garden pots filled with blooming flowers and flowering vines climbing the garden walls create a colorful oasis within the walled courtyard of this delightful village home.

There are several seating areas clustered around the pool area and under the traditional arched pergola. A large teak dining table, shaded by a garden parasol, provides al fresco dining for up to ten guests. A gas BBQ completes the outdoor dining experience.

Discreetly situated behind a large wrought-iron gate on a quiet side street in the peaceful little village of Maillane, Maison Maillane combines the experience of living within a picturesque Provençal village with the privacy and comfort of a well-appointed and charminly decorated vacation retreat. Maillane one of the lesser-known "gems" of the Bouches du Rhône and the birthplace (and final resting place!) of the famous Provençal poet and Nobel laureate, Frédéric Mistral. The village offers a selection of small shops, cafés and services, as well as one of the area’s most delightful restaurants. A small open-air market fills the town square on Thursday mornings.

The justifiably famous village of St. Rémy-de-Provence, with its broad selection of shops, restaurants, art galleries and museums and the excavated antiquities of the ruined Roman city of Glanum, as well as its truly incredible Wednesday morning market (one of our favorites!) is just a few kilometers from Maillane, easily accessible by car or by bike along the level, plane tree-lined country roads.

The medieval village of Les Baux de Provence, the famous wine and olive oil producing region of Maussane-les-Alpilles and Mouriés, the Roman amphitheatre and ruins at Arles and the ancient walled city of Avignon are all within a half-hour's drive from Maillane.

Aix-en-Provence, famous for its university and its Cezanne atelier and galleries, the seaside villages of the Bouches du Rhône, and France's second-largest city, Marseille (you'll either love it or hate it!) are all within an hour's drive.

The A-7 autoroute is approximately 15 km (approximately eight miles) from Maillane, making the location of Maison Maillane easily accessible to the sites and villages of the Vaucluse, including the famous "perched" villages of the Lubéron Valley, the often-photographed lavander fields, and the world-renowned wine estates of Châteauneuf de Pâpe, the Côtes du Ventoux and Côtes du Rhône, Gigondas and Vacqueryas.

Maillane is a particularly ideal location for bikers who prefer to cycle on level, tree-lined country roads...a "cyclist-friendly" route links Maillane to its more famous neighbor, St. Rémy-de-Provence, just a few kilometers away.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HOUSE RENTS ON A SATURDAY TO SATURDAY; AS WITH ALL OF OUR PROPERTIES, SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED INSIDE THE HOUSE AND PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
