Mas des Tonnelles

Mas des Tonnelles is a beautifully decorated and luxuriously appointed villa which boasts the best of modern amenities as well as a prime location just outside Eygaliéres, one of the Bouches du Rhône’s most sought-after villages, and within a few minutes’ drive to the justifiably famous village of St. Rémy-de-Provence.

Surrounded by nearly four acres of private grounds, planted with olive trees, native garrigues and blooming gardens and with expansive views of the formidable Alpilles mountain range, this is a truly magnificent, architect-designed property which offers our most discriminating clients an exceptional combination of privacy, comfort and convenience, and more than 3,500 square feet of living area.

Guests enter the property off a small private road, through a remote-controlled, wrought-iron gate which opens onto an entry courtyard with protected parking.  A welcoming entry hall, with its traditional stone-tiled floors, gives the first hint of the tastefully decorated and elegantly appointed main-level salon and dining areas lying just beyond.  The salon is centered by a beautiful stone fireplace, and is furnished with comfortable seating groups flanking the fireplace.  Modern amenities include high-speed wireless internet access and an entertainment system incorporating a stereo/DVD system and cable and satellite television (including English-language channels).

At the far end of the large living area lies a formal dining table with seating for ten guests, which opens onto the beautiful outdoor dining terraces through gracefully arched French doors.  A small powder room, with toilet and washbasin, is conveniently located adjacent to the main-level living rooms.

The kitchen, with its tasteful tiled accents and professional-grade appliances, is spacious and well-equipped, A small dining table in the center of the sunny kitchen provides a charming spot for breakfast or informal meals.  Adjacent to the kitchen, and with access to the outdoor summer kitchen and pool areas, a large butler’s pantry houses a second “American-style” refrigerator/freezer, washing machine and dryer, and a range of housekeeping equipment.  Between the pantry and the summer kitchen, a shower and toilet offer a perfect “bridge” between indoor and outdoor living.

The exterior living areas are equally inviting and well-appointed.  A large enclosed summer kitchen, with BBQ, microwave and refrigerator, as well as a a large dining table and chairs, opens onto the open terraces leading to the swimming pool, and boasts a retractable panel which protects the summer kitchen’s comfort well into the cooler fall and spring evenings.  Adjacent to the summer kitchen lies an open dining and comfortable seating areas, shaded by arbors (tonnelles) adorned by seasonal blooms, overlooking the large (40’ x 20’) swimming pool, which is protected by a tasteful security fence and electric cover.

On the main level of the house, opposite the salon and dining area and accessed through a gracefully arched doorway, lies a sunny bedroom furnished with two twin beds, with its ensuite shower room, with washbasin, tiled shower and toilet.  Up a short flight of stairs, there are two additional bedrooms. A large “master” with a king-sized bed, a small terrace opening onto the gardens below, and an ensuite bathroom with two washbasins, a claw-foot bathtub and tiled shower, provides an elegant suite. Also on the second level, there is a bedroom furnished with a double bed and with an ensuite shower room with its tiled shower, washbasin and toilet.

Across from the main house, linked by a covered walkway, lies a second wing of the house, with two beautiful bedrooms.  One bedroom is furnished with a queen bed, and has a private bathroom immediately across the hall, with a tiled shower, washbasin and toilet.  A second “master” bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed, and has an ensuite bathroom with shower, bathtub, washbasin and toilet.

Although the traditional construction of Mas des Tonnelles, including thick stone walls and floor tiles, keeps the house cool in the warm months and warm in the off-season, the bedrooms are air conditioned and bedroom windows feature insect screens to ensure guests’ comfort.

Eygaliéres has become one of our favorite villages in all of Provence, with its charming assortment of galleries, shops and boutiques, its delightful Friday morning market, and its selection of casual and fine dining restaurants (including the Bistro d’Eygaliéres/Chez Bru, with two Michelin stars).  St. Rémy-de-Provence, with its wider range of shops, restaurants and services, is within a ten minute drive, and the golf courses, wineries, restaurants and sights of Les Baux, Maussane-les-Alpilles, Avignon, Arles and Aix-en-Provence are all within a 15-30 minute drive.  With the A-7 autoroute just ten minutes from the house, Maison des Tonnelles is well-situated for touring all of the Bouches du Rhône and Vaucluse tourist destinations…if you can tear yourself away from one of the comfortable lounge chairs overlooking the pool and the incredible views of the Alpilles mountains long enough to sight-see…

Light mid-week cleaning, pool and garden service and end of stay transitional housekeeping are included in the rental price.
