Maison de Soie

If you were simply walking down the street past this delightful home in the center of Goult, one of our favorite villages in the Lubéron Valley, lies one of the true "gems" of our Vaucluse portfolio, you would never dream that behind the unprepossessing oak entry door lies one of the most charming village homes in the region, with traditionally decorated living areas and beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom, all clustered around a beautiful courtyard with a private pool, gardens and sunny terraces.

Travelers desiring the unique experience of a completely renovated and thoughtfully restored property, which consists of a living and dining areas, a charming country kitchen and a private master suite with bedroom, bathroom and salon in the three-level central property and a "cluster" of one and two level bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom, surrounding a sunny and incredibly tranquil interior courtyard with a private pool and outdoor terraces and dining areas.

In addition to the four primary bedrooms with their ensuite bathrooms, a separate salon, fitted with two twin daybeds, and an adjacent bathroom provide sleeping accommodations for two older children or teens. We think the house is best suited for up to four couples, with at best an additional child or two or a "single."

Upon entering the home, guests are welcomed into the charming main-level living and dining room, with its authentic ceiling beams, stone floors and large wood-burning fireplace.

Comfortable armchairs, upholstered in traditional Provençal fabrics, flank the fireplace. A large "country" dining table and caned chairs provide a cozy indoor dining area for six to eight guests.

Just beyond the main salon, through a wide arched doorway, lies the delightful kitchen, with its tiled accent borders and authentic stone hood above the sink and range.

Though compact, the kitchen is well-equipped, with a two burner gas range, oven, microwave, dishwasher and built-in refrigerator/freezer.

Warm colors in the wall paint and whimsical borders, tiled countertops and accents compliment the charming Provençal decor, and reflect the bright sunlight which streams through the large windows and doors opening onto the tiled terrace separating the main house from the pool area. A second salon, also on the main level, provides additional space for relaxation or conversation.

The covered terrace between the kitchen and pool area provides additional seating for four...a perfect spot for breakfast in the morning, a casual lunch or for cocktails before heading to one of the Lubéron's many wonderful restaurants for dinner (our favorite is just steps away!)

Up a few stairs from the main living area on a mezzanine level, a small utility room houses a washing machine and dryer.

A charming library on the mezzanine level, equipped with stereo system and CD player, a small desk and a comfortable seating area, offers a quite spot for writing postcards, reading or relaxing after a busy day of touring.  The  owners have recently installed a high-speed, wireless internet system which works throughout the house...and on the terrace surrounding the pool as well, so that guests can remain "connected" whereever they are at the property!

Up a few more steps from the mezzanine level lies the master suite, with its cozy salon (with television). A sunny outdoor terrace, furnished with comfortable teak lounge chairs, is the perfect oasis for private sunbathing or an afternoon nap.

From this vantage point, the views over the pool and across the ancient rooftops of the charmng village of Goult extend towards the hills rising from the Lubéron Valley.

The sunny master bedroom, on the upper level of the main house, is furnished with a large (59" wide) bed with wrought-iron canopy. The warm wall colors reflect the bright Provençal sunlight beyond the expansive windows. Traditional Provençal furnishings, including a mirrored armoire and chests, combine convivial ambiance with the practicality of ample storage space.

The private master bathroom, with its muted color scheme highlighted by rose and cream tinted tiles and borders, is fitted with a large bathtub, separate stall shower, toilet and washbasin.

A beautiful courtyard, with blooming flowers in season, surrounds the pool area and provides access to the home's three additional bedrooms, some up a few steps from the courtyard, some down a few steps from the poolside terraces, and each with an ensuite bathroom.

Each of the double bedrooms is fitted with a large (59" wide) bed, and has its own bathroom with washbasin, toilet and shower or tub. The color schemes and use of local Provençal fabrics and decorative accents throughout the house compliment its traditional architectural elements, including stone tiled floors, arched ceilings and entries, and thick stone and plaster walls.

Each of the home's five bathrooms, including the smaller bathroom adjacent to the salon/children's sleeping porch, blends colorful tiles and accents with modern fixtures and appointments.

In addition to the large woodburning fireplace in the main living area, the home (including each of the independent bedrooms) is fitted with an electric heating system, making this property a wonderful choice for off-season stays. The original stone walls and authentic floor tiles, as well as the open floor plan which allows breezes to circulate throughout the home, help keep the house cool during even the warmest summer months.

The configuration of the home, consisting of the main house, incorporating the primary living, dining and kitchen area as well as the master suite and library/TV rooms, and the separate, though immediately adjacent bedroom suites "clustered" around the pool area, interior courtyard and terraces, provides an exceptionally private, yet thoroughly convivial, village property.

Light weekday (three times per week) housekeeping is included in the rental price.

From its location within the centre ville of Goult, the home is within a short walk to a small, though charming, selection of restaurants, shops, bars, cafés and bistros.
The famous "perched" villages of Gordes, Roussillon, Menerbes and Lacoste, among others, with their galleries, shops, restaurants and services are within a five to ten minute drive.

The incredible Abbey de Sénanque, famous for its historic monastery and fragrant lavender fields, is within 15 minutes away. The famous open air markets at Isle sur la Sorgue and Apt are less than 20 minutes from the house. Historic St-Rémy-de-Provence, Arles, Les Baux de Provence and Vaison la Romaine are all within a day trip's distance.

There are vineyards and tasting rooms featuring the famous vintages of the Côtes-du-Ventoux vineyards in Goult, and other wine villages and estates within an easy reach of the home.

Cyclists and hikers will find a dazzling array of trails and routes on the Lubéron plateau and in the Dentelles du Montmirail/Mont Ventoux region.
