L'Horloge at L'Hameau de la Fontaine

The delightful, and as-yet, unspoiled, village of Goult, has become one of our favorites in the Lubéron Valley, and L'Hameau de la Fontaine, a wonderful "cluster" of six beautifully decorated and appointed homes, each with its own private pool, gardens and terraces, and views of the valleys and vineyards which make the Lubéron one of the most sought-after destinations in Provence, is one of our most exceptional properties, literally built within the foundations of an ancient, yet recently abandoned, structure just outside Goult.

L'Horloge is distinguished by the huge clock adorning one of the exterior walls at the entry to the house. Located at the north end of L'Hameau, this beautiful home features a wonderful private terrace, bordered by lawn areas and blooming flowers in terra cotta pots, all overlooking the private swimming pool and outdoor dining area.

On the ground level, there is a "master" bedroom with two twin beds (which can be combined or left separate), decorated in soft earth tones and featuring exposed wood ceiling beams and tiled floors. An adjacent bathroom is fitted with a true "stand-up shower" and dual washbasins; there is also a separate toilet room on this level. A full-sized washing machine and dryer are located in a utility room adjacent to the shower room.

The living area is spacious and filled with light; the high ceilings are accented by massive exposed wood beams, consistent with l'Horloge's traditional Provençal architecture. The focal point of the room is the large woodburning fireplace with its stone mantle and hearth, flanked by comfortable contemporary seating pieces. The salon is also decorated with a tasteful blend of country antiques and modern accents. Amenities include a satellite television, DVD player and music system, and high-speed internet access.

The dining area is adjacent to the open kitchen, and features a country dining table and comfortable chairs, with seating for eight, and an unusual chandelier. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped, with a four-burner electric range, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer and microwave.

Expansive French doors open from the living areas to the beautiful gardens, lawn areas and large private pool, with views to vineyards and hills to the east. There is a large outdoor dining table on the terrace, lounge chairs and an umbrella for shade, and a BBQ grill.

On the upper level there are three additional bedrooms; two with two twin beds (one of which can be separated) and one with a double bed. The furnishings are a charming mix of antiques, modern pieces and eclectic accents. A shower room with washbasin and a bathroom with tub are located on the upper level, as is a second independent toilet room.

L'Hameau de la Fontaine is located just 500 meters from the charming village of Goult (our personal favorite in the Lubéron), home to a lively café and bar, a few restaurants (including one truly extraordinary restaurant that has become our "standard" for special evenings out), a newsstand with English-language publications, and a few basic shops. There are public tennis courts available for guests' use within the town limits, and off-street parking at the hamlet.

The famous "perched" villages of the Lubéron...Gordes, Menerbes, Rousillon, Venasque, among others...are within a half-hour's drive from the property.
Isle sur la Sorgue, with its celebrated Sunday market and charming shops and restaurants, is only a few miles away.

Tastings at several Côtes-du-Ventoux vineyards in Goult and neighboring wineriesand chateaux are also nearby. The incredible Abbey de Sénanque, famous for its historic monastery and fragrant lavender fields, is within 15 minutes away.

Historic St-Rémy-de-Provence, Arles, Les Baux de Provence and Vaison la Romaine are all within a day trip's distance.


Exercise enthusiasts will find numerous walking, hiking and cycling opportunities throughout the Lubéron plateau and in the Dentelles du Montmirail and Mont Ventoux region.
