Les Deux Terraces

With two private terraces overlooking the ancient walled city of Avignon, Les Deux Terraces is truly an oasis for the discriminating traveler seeking the experience of a vacation rental in the heart of a vibrant Provençal city combined with the luxury, comfort and privacy of a newly renovated and tastefully decorated and appointed penthouse accommodation.

The apartment is located on the upper-most level of an unassuming building near the famous Place d’Horloge, at the center of historic Avignon, once the home of the Vatican and now the lively capitol at the crossroads of the Vaucluse and Bouches du Rhône departements of Provence.  A circular stairway (note that there is no elevator access to the apartment) leads from the ground floor up to the penthouse level. 

The living areas are distributed over two interior levels, with sloping ceilings, tiled floors and authentic stone accents.  The main salon features a cozy seating area, with a flat-screen television, computer and entertainment system (there is also wireless internet access).  The adjacent dining area provides interior seating for four; there is also a spacious terrace, with views over the walled city, fitted with a BBQ grill and tasteful teak dining table and chairs, perfect for enjoying a meal al fresco.  The kitchen is compact, yet well-appointed, with quality stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, oven, range, refrigerator and microwave.  The apartment also features a washing machine and tumble dryer, and is air conditioned to ensure comfort throughout the summer season.

There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms in the penthouse, making it a perfect accommodation for six.  The master bedroom, with its queen-sized bed, has ample closet space and a private ensuite bathroom, with beautiful tile accents and an American-style stall shower, washbasin and toilet.  The master opens onto a private terrace with views over the ancient tiled rooftops of this magical city.  The second bedroom is fitted with a large double bed; there is also a second bathroom, again featuring modern tiles and fixtures.  The third bedroom, which likewise has its own bathroom, has two twin beds. There are two toilets. Note that because of the multiple levels within the apartment and the narrow stairway leading to the penthouse, Les Deux Terraces is not suitable for groups with young children or with guests with disabilities.

The historic sites of Avignon, as well as the many celebrated (a few with Michelin stars) restaurants, chic shops and boutiques, the incredible Les Halles food market, and the lively mall, with its street vendors and artistes, leading to the Palais de Papes are all within a short walk from the apartment.

Avignon is often called the “capital” of Provence; a modern city, with a broad variety of retail centers and professional services, rings the old city, within the medieval walls which once housed the Vatican city during a period of estrangement between the Pope and the government of Rome.

Within the walls of the ancient city lie an incredible array of celebrated restaurants, chic shops and boutiques, and gourmet markets, including the Avignon central food market, where one can find traditional Provençal specialties and international favorites.  The Avignon “mall,” running the length of the walled city to the Palais de Papes, is just a few minutes by foot from the apartment.


The Rhône and Durance rivers define the borders of the Vaucluse and Bouches du Rhône departements of Provence; the city of Avignon lies at the intersection of these waterways.  By car, the many sites of Provence, including the perched villages and vineyards of the Lubéron to the north or the charming market towns and beaches of the Bouches de Rhône to the south, are all within a day trip’s distance from Les Deux
Terraces.
