L'Aire du Sablet

Perched at the top of the picturesque village of Sablet, one of our favorite "real" villages in the northern Vaucluse, this newly renovated and beautifully decorated townhouse, with its quintessentially provençal views over tiled rooftops to the vineyards beyond, is a wonderful choice for two couples or a small family.

Behind a solid oak entry door lies L'Aire du Sablet, a beautifully renovated and tastefully decorated home which honors the authenticity of its 17th century origins while incorporating the modern elements which ensure that 21st century travelers will enjoy a comfortable relaxed Provençal pied a terre. Recently renovated with great taste and attention to detail, this charming village house is a delightful blend of provençal ambiance and modern amenities, resulting in a property that offers the best of character and comfort.

Freshly painted white walls, neutral floor tiles and upholstery, and light woods provide an understated background in the living and dining areas, which are accented by colorful paintings on the walls, pillows and floor rugs, and a comfortable seating area. The salon is also furnished with a satellite television (with access to English language channels), DVD player and stereo system, and a wireless internet connection so that guests can easily stay "connected"...if they can tear themselves away from the beautiful views across the village to the vineyards of the celebrated Gigondas and Vacqueryas wine regions surrounding the charming village of Sablet.
A wood burning stove in the salon provides warmth and a focal point during winter stays; there are also floor fans for additional air circulation during the warmer months.

A newly-remodelded "powder room" with toilet and washbasin is conveniently located on the main level adjacent to the living areas.

The formal dining room, up a few steps from the salon and with views across the tiled rooftops of the village, can comfortably accommodate four guests. The lovely china cabinet, with its array of dinnerware and glasses, provides only a hint of the full compliment of cookware and dining pieces provided by the owners, who clearly know how to entertain!

The kitchen is a true delight, with sleek countertops, traditional provençal cabinetry, and a comfortable seating area for more casual dining. French doors lead to the private courtyard, with its outdoor eating area. A full compliment of quality appliances, including a five burner stove, microwave, oven, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and washer and dryer, provides the efficiency in the kitchen, while the beautiful tiles and traditional architectural elements provide the character and charm.

Just steps beyond the lovely kitchen lies the beautiful outdoor courtyard, filled with blooming plants and furnished with a small dining table and chairs. The terrace provides a peaceful oasis in the heart of this lively village.
.. what better place to start the day over a café au lait or end it with a glass of local wine? There is also a gas BBQ.

There are two full bedrooms, one with an ensuite shower and washbasin and the other adjacent to a second full bathroom with toilet, on the second level, to accommodate up to four guests.
The main bathroom on the second level has a full bathtub with wall-mounted shower, toilet and washbasin and also houses the home's washing machine and separate dryer.

Each of the bedrooms has sloping ceilings and wood beams, as well as windows opening out to the views of the vineyards and valleys surrounding Sablet.

Please note that the sleeping areas are accessed by a tiled stairway, leading from the main living area to the bedrooms above. There are also steps from the salon to the dining room and kitchen.

L'Aire du Sablet is perched at the top of the charming wine village of Sablet, in the heart of the famous Gigondas wine region, home to some of the most celebrated "reds" produced in France. Unlike some village properties, L'Aire du Sablet is sunny, bright and airy.

The village of Sablet is thoroughly authentic and quintessentially Provençal...the boulangerie is filled with locals, not tourists, the shopkeepers welcome you with a smile, a weather report or a recipe, and your neighbors are likely to have lived in the same family home for generations...

A selection of small shops, including a wonderful boulangerie, and small grocers and charcuteries, are within a few minutes' stroll from the house. Though less famous than its neighbor, the plus beau village of Séguret, Sablet is a truly "alive" village, which offers guests a truly authentic experience of life in a small Provençal town.

he home's proximity to the world-renowned Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Côtes du Rhône wine villages and estates make it a perfect choice for wine lovers; history and architecture buffs will find the location perfect for exploring the historic towns of Orange, Vaison-la-Romaine, and Avignon, all within a half hour's drive of the house.

yclists, from the truly expert to the casual rider, will appreciate the wide variety and level of difficulty of bike trails throughout the region, from scaling le Mont Ventoux (a route often included on the Tour de France) to meandering through the vineyards on more gentle roads and bike paths.

The Lubéron valley, with its perched medieval villages and vineyards, the beautiful town of St. Rémy-de-Provence, with its broad array of restaurants, galleries and its incredible weekly market, the amphitheatre and Roman ruins in Arles, and the famous tourist destinations offered by Les Baux, Nîmes, the Gorges de l'Ardèche, and Nyons are all within an easy day trip from Sablet.

Avignon, home to the Palais du Pâpes (the French version of the Vatican) and the modern high speed train station is within 20 minutes of Sablet.
