La Mediteranee at L'Hameau de la Fontaine

The delightful, and as-yet unspoiled, village of Goult, has become one of our favorites in the Lubéron Valley, and L'Hameau de la Fontaine, a wonderful "cluster" of six beautifully decorated and appointed homes, each with its own private pool, gardens and terraces, and views of the valleys and vineyards which make the Lubéron one of the most sought-after destinations in Provence, is one of our most exceptional properties, literally built within the foundations of an ancient, yet recently abandoned, structure just outside Goult.

La Mediteranee is the largest and most elegantly decorated of the six completely independent rental homes within the hamlet, with quality European antiques and classic mediterranean accents. Located at the south end of L'Hameau, this beautiful two-level home features an expansive and very private stone terrace which is accessed through glass French doors from the kitchen, living and dining areas, and simply invites guests to take full advantage of the spacious lawn areas, blooming gardens, private swimming pool with teak decking and an outdoor dining area. There are lounge chairs for sunning, a large market umbrella for shade, and a BBQ grill for cooking al fresco.

The main level living area, overlooking the gardens and the pool, is spacious and filled with light; the high ceilings are accented by massive exposed wood beams, consistent with La Mediterranee's traditional Provençal architecture. A huge, Italianate armoire contrasts tastefully with the contemporary (and very comfortable) sofas arranged around a beautiful, marble-topped coffee table in front of the large woodburning fireplace. An elegant antique card table and period artwork complete the slightly baroque "feel" of the living room décor. Modern amenities include a flat-screen television, DVD player and music system, and high-speed internet access.

The dining area, with its long table and carved chairs, seats eight guests, and separates the salon from the spacious and sunny kitchen.

A graceful archway between at the entrance to the kitchen mirrors the design of the home's beautiful French doors throughout the main level, including those at the far end of the kitchen leading to the stone terrace and outdoor dining area. The kitchen is filled with sunlight, and features an antique buffet and charming tile accents. With its full compliment of quality appliances, including a dishwasher, four burner electric range, oven, refrigerator/freezer and microwave, the kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and entertaining. The home is also fitted with a washing machine.

On the main level, the bedroom features a queen-sized bed. The adjacent bathroom is fitted with a tiled bathtub with a handheld shower that can also be mounted on the wall and a traditional vanity with washbasin. An independent toilet room is also located on the main level, adjacent to the bedroom and living areas.

There are three additional bedrooms on the upper level; a spacious "master" bedroom furnished with a king-sized bed, one bedroom with a queen, and one with two twins (which can be combined to create a second king). There are two bathrooms on the upper level: one with a shower and washbasin, shared by the two smaller bedrooms, and one adjacent to the master, with a bathtub and dual washbasins. There is also a balcony on the second level off of the queen bedroom, and a small covered terrace, furnished with a romantic seating area, adjacent to the master bedroom.

L'Hameau de la Fontaine is located just 500 meters from the charming village of Goult (our personal favorite in the Lubéron), home to a lively café and bar, a few restaurants (including one truly extraordinary restaurant that has become our "standard" for special evenings out), a newsstand with English-language publications, and a few basic shops. There are public tennis courts available for guest's use within the town limits.

The famous "perched" villages of the Lubéron...Gordes, Menerbes, Rousillon, Venasque, among others...are within a half-hour's drive from the property.
Isle sur la Sorgue, with its celebrated Sunday market and charming shops and restaurants, is only a few miles away. Tastings at several Côtes-du-Ventoux vineyards in Goult and neighboring wineries and chateaux are also nearby.

The incredible Abbey de Sénanque, famous for its historic monastery and fragrant lavender fields, is within 15 minutes away. Historic St-Rémy-de-Provence, Arles, Les Baux de Provence and Vaison la Romaine are all within a day trip's distance.

Exercise enthusiasts will find numerous walking, hiking and cycling opportunities throughout the Lubéron plateau and in the Dentelles du Montmirail and Mont Ventoux region.

AS WITH MOST OF OUR PROPERTIES, SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED INSIDE THE HOUSE, AND PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
